Endemol Shine Africa Head of Creative Department, Helga Palmer has been appointed Head of Strategic Partnerships whilst Senior Creative Producer Brendan Gabriel will take over the reigns as Head of Creative.
Helga Palmer who has been heading the Creative Department for the past four and a half years, made her debut in the entertainment industry working on Shell Road To Fame Talent Search Competition and managing artists at one of South Africa’s leading music and concert promotion company, T. Musicman.
Her television career began in 1993 at Facet Film and Television, a company which was part of a merger to bring about Endemol South Africa. She has since produced and directed a variety of shows within the Endemol Shine Africa. In 2003 she left Endemol Shine Africa to work as a commissioning editor at M-Net Original Productions and later Content Executive for the children’s channel, Koowee.
In 2011 Palmer returned to Endemol Shine Africa to head the Creative department. As Creative Head she was responsible for all new format development and sales for the South African and sub-Saharan markets including sales of both Endemol Shine international and third party formats.
Her new role as Head of Strategic Partnerships involves identifying and managing co-production, training and new business partnerships across Sub-Saharan Africa including Endemol Shine Africa’s Skills and Enterprise Development Programmes.

Brendan Gabriel who has extensive experience working in the advertising industry in long and short format commercials and infomercials takes over from Palmer as Head of Creative Department. In his former role as a Senior Creative producer Gabriel has conceptualized and given creative direction on international formats such as Survivor South Africa and multiple Big Brothers. He has worked on numerous shows including Step Up or Step Out (eTV), The Right to Win (SABC 2), Guinness Football Challenge (Kenya, Cameroon, & Ghana), Tempy Pushas, Katch It With Khanyi, Reality Check and B&B.
As Creative Head he will be spearheading the creative team to continue driving Endemol Shine Africa’s format development and business strategy, ensuring that Endemol Shine Africa’s creative output can both influence and learn from the group’s spectacular entertainment ethos as well as maximizing the impact of local creative development.

When asked what he has planned in his new role as Creative Head, Gabriel said he was looking forward to paving the way for more local content that is not only uniquely African but that will also travel globally. “Endemol Shine Africa provides creative a truly global platform for local formats to gain exposure to the rest of the world,” said Gabriel.
Both Palmer and Gabriel will continue to enjoy a working relationship in helping the Endemol Shine Africa business create, connect and grow in the African TV and Digital market.
