CEO Endemol Shine Africa

Sivan Pillay made the transition from the music industry (EMI Music 1995-1999) into television entertainment in 2000 when he joined Endemol South Africa as Sponsorships and Merchandising Manager.  He then became Head of Commercial and Digital Business and was responsible for all Sales, Marketing, Digital Media and Business Development for SA and Africa. He was also responsible for all brand exploitation in Big Brother South Africa 1, 2 and Big Brother AfricaFear FactorDeal or No Deal and All You Need is Love to name few. He was appointed Managing Director of Endemol South Africa in 2008. He is responsible for managing and developing the Endemol business in Sub-Saharan Africa, this includes creative development and new business innovation in television, mobile and web.

Calvin Sefala Calvin Sefala 

Head of Finance

Calvin Sefala joined Endemol as Head of Finance in March 2013. As a qualified CA, his diverse background and understanding of finance encompasses auditing firm KPMG as a Senior Accountant, exposure to the industry as Financial Manager at the SABC and Finance Business Partner at Schneider Electric, before joining Endemol. Calvin is responsible for Endemol South Africa, East Africa and Nigeria.

Head of Strategic Partnerships

Helga Palmer made her debut in the entertainment industry working on Shell Road To Fame Talent Search Competition and managing artists at one of South Africa’s leading music and concert promotion companies, T. Musicman. Her television career began in 1993 at Facet Film and Television, a company which was part of a merger to bring about Endemol Shine Africa. She has since produced and directed a variety of shows within the Endemol Shine Africa catalogue. In 2003 she left Endemol Shine Africa to work as a Commissioning Editor at M-Net Original Productions and later as Content Executive for the M-Net children’s channel, Koowee. She was also part of the Mzansi Magic commissioning team before her departure in early 2011. In February 2011 she returned to Endemol Shine Africa to Head up the Creative department. As Creative Head she was responsible for all new format development and sales for the South African and Sub-Saharan markets including sales of both Endemol Shine International and third party formats. During her 4.5 year tenure the Creative Department has enjoyed a number of successes in South Africa and Africa which brought about local shows such as Tempy Pushas, Katch It with Khanyi, Reality Check, B&B, Mamello, Kenya’s Maisha Superstar and international formats, What’s Behind The Wall? Clash of The Choirs, Give Me That Bill as well as, creative direction on Survivor South Africa Champions and multiple Big Brothers. She was appointed as Head of Strategic Partnerships in July 2015. A role which involves identifying and managing co-production, training and new business partnerships across Sub Saharan Africa including Endemol Shine Africa’s Skills and Enterprise Development Programmes.

Brendan Gabriel

Head of Creative

Brendan Gabriel has been with Endemol Shine Africa for six years and has witnessed the company grow and evolve in the time of content development in a digital age. As Creative Head Brendan Gabriel spearheads the creative team towards the implementation of Endemol Shine Africa’s format development and business strategy. His core focus is to maintain partnerships with broadcasters and other content access platforms as well as ensuring that Endemol Shine Africa’s creative output is in line with the group’s spectacular entertainment ethos. He harnesses inspiration and ideas into entertaining TV formats to support broadcaster expectations and demands. From conceptualization to creative direction and consultation, his core function follows through the entire creative production process right to final delivery. Step Up or Step Out (eTV), Reality Check (eTV), Tempy Pushas (SABC 1), Guinness Football Challenge (Kenya, Cameroon, & Ghana), and Maisha Superstar for East Africa are but a few titles under his current conceptual portfolio at Endemol Shine Africa. Brendan Gabriel has also provided creative direction on international formats such as Big Brother Africa, Big Brother Angola (two seasons), Big Brother Mzansi (two seasons) and Survivor South Africa Champions.  His creative production experience expands onto the world of scripted programming and branded entertainment making him a valued resource in Endemol Shine Africa's format development process.

 

Sam Shale

Anton Burggraaf

Head of Non-Scripted Entertainment Television

Anton Burggraaf began his career in the television industry in 1995 as a production manager having trained in theatre design and direction. He worked his way through several genres including drama, magazine and documentary before stumbling upon his current TV love, reality. He has produced and directed many of Endemol SA's prime formats like Deal of No Deal, Big Brother, Fear Factor and the call TV format, PlayTV. He was Supervising Producer and HOD Content on Survivor South Africa. Anton returned to Endemol SA in his current position after a stint as Executive Producer at Ochre Moving Pictures where he developed and produced several original formats like Relate, In Debt, Kwanda, Nege Maande and youth formats like Made in SA and 48Hours. As Head of Entertainment TV, he is responsible for production of scripted and non-scripted business in both South Africa and ventures for Endemol in East and West Africa.

Sam Shale

Head of Scripted Entertainment Television

After graduating from Wits Drama School, Sam Shale began his career as freelancer. He was involved in various roles in Production for various production companies, this included Production Assistant, Camera operator, Assistant Director and Directing amongst the others. He then joined the SABC as a Commissioning Editor where he stayed for eight years. He commissioned the two most popular Soapies, namely Generations and Muvhango-which happened to hold the number one and two spot respectively as the most watched television shows in South Africa. Sam Shale commissioned Dramas and Mini Series. Notably Izingani Zobaba and A Place Called Home series 1 and series 2. These properties won awards ranging from 6 to 10 in different categories. In 2012 Sam Shale became the Head of Drama (Acting) for the duration of a year, many properties were commissioned under his leadership. He was responsible for the implementation of the overall strategy of the Drama portfolio. He is currently working for Endemol SA as Head of Scripted Entertainment.
